Authorised Panasonic, GM Modular & Legrand Dealer in Bangalore — What It Means and Why It Matters

The difference between an authorised and unauthorised dealer is the difference between a working warranty and a worthless one. Here's what to ask.

“We have all brands, sir.” Walk into any electrical shop in Bangalore and you’ll hear this. But there’s a quiet truth the trade doesn’t advertise: stocking a brand and being authorised to sell it are two different things. And the distinction matters more than most buyers realise.

Here’s what “authorised dealer” actually means, why it affects your warranty, and how to find genuine authorised dealers for the brands that matter in Bangalore.

Authorised vs Unauthorised — The Real Difference

An authorised dealer has a formal agreement with the manufacturer. They:

  • Buy stock directly from the manufacturer or its regional distributor
  • Carry a documented dealer code that links every sale to them
  • Can validate warranties on behalf of the customer
  • Receive product training, marketing material, and demo units
  • Are listed on the manufacturer’s “Find a Dealer” portal
  • Must follow manufacturer pricing and warranty terms

An unauthorised seller sources stock from grey-market channels — typically bulk imports diverted from other markets, surplus from large project orders, or (worst case) counterfeits packaged to look genuine. They can sell you a product that physically looks identical to the real thing — until you need to claim a warranty, at which point the manufacturer disowns the sale.

Five Things Authorised Dealers Do That Others Don’t

1. Issue Valid Warranty Cards

A Panasonic Roma Urban switch carries a 5-year manufacturer warranty. A Legrand Myrius module carries 10 years. A GM G-Pro plate, 5 years. But the warranty is only valid if the dealer fills out the card with their authorised dealer code at the time of sale. No code, no warranty.

2. Handle Warranty Claims Directly

If a switch fails three years in, you don’t want to chase a manufacturer call centre. Authorised dealers act as your warranty broker — you bring the defective unit, they replace it (often same-day from their own stock) and reconcile with the manufacturer.

3. Stock Only Current Catalogue

Manufacturers regularly update their product lines. Old stock — sometimes years out of date — ends up in grey markets. Authorised dealers receive catalogue updates and rotate inventory. You’re less likely to get a discontinued model.

4. Receive Technical Updates

When manufacturers issue field service bulletins (e.g., a known issue with a particular batch), authorised dealers get notified and reach out to affected customers. Unauthorised sellers don’t — you’ll never know.

5. Display the Dealer Certificate

Authorised dealers have a framed certificate from the manufacturer on the wall, usually with the dealer code, validity period and authorised product categories. If you don’t see one — or if the certificate is for a different brand than what they’re trying to sell you — ask questions.

How to Verify Authorised Dealer Status

For Panasonic (including Anchor)

Visit panasonic.com/in → Electrical Construction Materials → Where to Buy. Enter your pincode (560053 for Chickpet). The authorised dealer list with names, addresses and phone numbers is published officially.

For GM Modular

Go to gmmodular.com → Dealer Locator. Same drill — enter pincode, get authorised list.

For Legrand

Visit legrand.co.in → Contact → Find a Distributor / Retailer. Legrand differentiates between distributors (bulk) and retailers (storefront).

For Havells (including Crabtree)

Visit havells.com → Where to Buy. Same locator-style portal.

For Polycab

Visit polycab.com → Find a Dealer.

Always cross-check the shop you’re planning to visit against the manufacturer’s portal. If the shop isn’t on the official list, they’re unauthorised — even if they carry the brand’s products.

What Authorised Dealers in Bangalore Stock

A serious authorised dealer in Chickpet typically holds direct authorisation for:

  • Modular Switches: Panasonic, GM Modular, Legrand, Havells (Crabtree), Schneider Electric, Anchor
  • Wires & Cables: Polycab, Finolex, Havells, RR Kabel
  • LED Lighting: Wipro, Bajaj, Philips, Syska, Crompton
  • Fans: Crompton, Havells, Atomberg, Orient, Usha, Bajaj
  • MCBs & Distribution: Legrand, Schneider, Havells, L&T, Hager

If a shop claims to be authorised for ten brands but only displays certificates for two, ask to see the documentation for the rest. A legitimate dealer will produce them.

Authorised Dealer Pricing

One concern: are authorised dealers more expensive? Generally, no. Manufacturers fix dealer margins, so authorised pricing across shops in Bangalore is fairly consistent. The difference is in discounts — authorised dealers can offer manufacturer-approved seasonal discounts, contractor rebates, and project pricing. Unauthorised sellers can underbid on individual units (they’re working on grey-market stock), but they can’t match authorised dealers on volume orders, project supply or warranty value.
